I come from a long line of firefighters. At least five generations of my family has taken pride in protecting their neighbors against fires. After 22 years as a firefighter myself, my heart races every time I hear a siren. I have always been able to tell by the look in my father’s eye when he hears a siren he feels it too. When it came time for him to retire, I knew that I wanted to get him a gift that would do justice to his dedication to the job.
I started my search on the Internet, looking for anything related to firefighting. There were all the usual things…Dalmatians, model trucks and so on. None of these grabbed me; too cliche. I found an old pole from a demolished fire station and nearly decided on that. As I considered it, though, I couldn’t figure out where it would go in my parents’ house. I knew that my mom might not be too happy about it. They don’t have a big house. Firefighting isn’t the most lucrative career choice. But he has a lot of land, so I thought I should find something that could go outside.
As I spent more time looking around the internet, I finally saw an ad that looked really interesting: Antique Fire Trucks for Sale. When the page loaded, I was shocked by the incredible variation in antique fire trucks for sale and their amazing affordable prices. All of these incredible old fashioned antique fire trucks for sale were listed neatly one on top of the other. I knew for certain that this was the gift.
After browsing through the selection of antique fire trucks for sale, I finally narrowed my list down to two contenders. One truck was very old, with wooden spoked wheels, and the second was a 1965 Howe. Although the older truck has a nostalgic look to it, I knew he would love the Howe, because he had actually driven those on calls in his youth. With all of the antique fire trucks for sale, it wasn’t an easy decision, but I finally settled on the Howe.
I made sure I was at my parents’ house the day the fire truck was to be delivered. When the truck came, my dad was so overwhelmed that tears of joy streamed down his face. His eyes lit up as he examined the truck. Now, almost anytime I visit, I know I will find him outside shining his beautiful antique firetruck. My younger kids climb up on the truck and listen as their granddad tells them stories from his days as a firefighter. If you’re looking for an amazing gift for the firefighter in your life, I highly recommend looking at antique fire trucks for sale.
