I come from a long line of firefighters. At least five generations of my family has taken pride in protecting their neighbors against fires. Even after 22 years, anytime I hear a siren my heart races. I can tell by watching my father that he also feels the urge to get to work protecting America’s families each time a siren calls. When it came time for him to retire, I knew that I wanted to get him a gift that would do justice to his dedication to the job.

I started my search on the Internet, looking for anything related to firefighting. There were all the usual things…Dalmatians, model trucks and so on. They were too cliche to grab my interest. I really considered getting him a pole from a demolished fire station I found online. As I thought about it, though, I wasn’t sure where he would keep it or if he’d want something like that in the house. Would my mom like it? My parents didn’t have a huge house. As a career choice, you don’t go into firefighting for the money. However, my parents did have a lot of land, so I thought that if I could find something that could go outside, that might be a better choice.

As I spent more time looking around the internet, I finally saw an ad that looked really interesting: Antique Fire Trucks for Sale. When I went to the site, I was surprised by the range of antique fire trucks for sale and how affordable they were. All of these incredible old fashioned antique fire trucks for sale were listed neatly one on top of the other. I knew I’d found a special gift for my dad.

As I marveled at the great selection of antique fire trucks for sale, I narrowed my final selection down to two trucks. One truck was truly an antique, with wooden spoked wheels, and the other, more modern truck was a 1965 Howe. Although the older truck has a nostalgic look to it, I knew he would love the Howe, because he had actually driven those on calls in his youth. Out of all the antique fire trucks for sale, I settled on the Howe.

The day it arrived, I arranged to be there. When my dad opened the door and saw it, he was completely overwhelmed. His eyes lit up as he examined the truck. Now, when I drop by for a visit, I can anticipate finding him shining his antique fire truck, always with a smile. My younger kids climb up on the truck and listen as their granddad tells them stories from his days as a firefighter. If you’re looking for an unforgettable gift for the firefighter in your life, try looking at antique fire trucks for sale — you won’t regret it.
